Podcast: Luther in Real Time (Ligonier Ministries)

Podcast Link: A New Podcast—Luther: In Real Time (ligonier.org)

This is a series of irregular podcasts that are published 500 years to the day after key events in the Reformation and in Luther’s life. The podcasts are quite short (8-16 mins) and include a ‘taster’ of the next session at the end, so they can be made even shorter if you do not want to hear the ‘spoiler’.

The narration is very good and brings the story of Luther and his role in the Reformation to life. As well as getting to know more about the man, it is helpful to understand more about his theology and the prevailing culture in which the Reformation occurred.

Spiritual Depression

D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Available on Amazon

Psalm 42:5 asks: “Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Saviour and my God.”

Many Christians pass through times when they can identify with the Psalmist’s dejection and distress of soul. In this very insightful and practical book, Lloyd-Jones identifies both the common causes and cures for spiritual depression. He notes that this is a theme which arises regularly in the Scriptures and that it is a condition that can cause great distress to followers of Christ. His logical exposition and use of case studies and illustrations bring colour to the simple but profound remedies he skilfully and clearly articulates.

Even if you are not passing through a season such as this, the Biblically based insights and applications will take you deeper into Scripture and positively impact your walk with the Lord. They will also better equip you to help those who are struggling.

Spread over 13 DVDs, Phil Vischer and his wide variety of puppet friends introduce children to the history of the Bible while continually pointing to God’s amazing rescue plan through Jesus.
